Local Government
Tourism and the Resource Management Act
Under the Resource Management Act, local government is required
to manage New Zealand's environment including water, air, biodiversity,
noise, coastal environment and land use planning: all of which impact
on tourism. Local authorities have a lead role in planning for
tourism to manage effects and optimise outcomes for visitors, industry,
communities and the environment.
'Postcards from Home: the local government tourism strategy' directed
Local Government New Zealand to: "Develop a good practice guide on the
Resource Management Act and tourism."
You can download "Tourism and the Resource Management Act: a good
practice guide"
here.
Development of the guide was
funded by the Minister of Tourism through the New Zealand Tourism Strategy
2010 implementation fund.
