The Wairakei Tourist Park is an area of land north of Taupo, owned by the Crown since 1946.
According to the Land Act 1948, the Commissioner of Crown Land has a statutory responsibility for issuing any lease, licence or recreation permits to occupy and use the land. This includes setting rent and pursuing legal action should a concessionaire breach the terms of their occupancy.
The Ministry of Tourism manages the tourism and recreation concessions within the Park, and advises the Minister of Tourism and Commissioner of Crown Land on tourism issues.
If you have an enquiry about an occupancy agreement, including rent payments or a change of land use, at Wairakei, you should first contact the Ministry.
Any enquiry about recreation group use should also be directed in the first instance to the Ministry.
