Environment

Last updated: October 2009

New Zealand's clean, green environment is a major attraction for international visitors. The New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 recognises this. One of the four major outcomes of the Strategy is that “the tourism sector takes a leading role in protecting and enhancing the environment”.

Current Ministry of Tourism projects include:

Work is also undertaken with the New Zealand Tourism Industry Association, Tourism New Zealand, Regional Tourism Organisations, Department of Conservation, Ministry for the Environment, tourism operators, local government and other stakeholders to ensure that the benefits and impacts of tourism on the environment are managed and monitored.

Conservation

New Zealand’s natural environment motivates many visitors to visit New Zealand and the Conservation Estate hosts them while they are here.
