Environmental Indicators

The Ministry of Tourism has led a project to identify environmental indicators for New Zealand tourism.
These will be reported on annually to monitor the relationship between New Zealand's tourism sector and New Zealand's environment.
The proposed set of tourism environmental indicators has been developed under two overarching goals:
- Monitoring visitors experience of New Zealand's environment
- Monitoring the tourism sector’s impacts on New Zealand’s environment
The proposed tourism environmental indicator set includes indicators based on data collected at the national, regional and operator levels. It is intended that the indicators set will be further developed over time as new data becomes available. The first report on Environmental Indicators is planned by the Ministry for early 2010.
