Transportation including international and domestic aviation as well as ground transport and cruise shipping are the means by which international and domestic visitors access and experience New Zealand.
Because of this, the way visitors get here and the infrastructure they rely on, including points of entry and exit like airports and ports, are highly important to tourism.
Our focus at a national level is on ensuring quality linkages and service, environmental sustainability, competition and regulation that works for tourism. This requires us to work in close partnership with government's transport agencies as they work to implement the NZ Transport Strategy.
New Zealand Government departments generally cannot take on individual complaints regarding rental vehicles or other tourism goods and services. However, if you are concerned about the goods or services you have received in New Zealand, the following options are available.
Aviation linkages to New Zealand's key international markets are critically important to the tourism sector. These linkages operate within a competitive and global aviation market and are far from static.
With 300% growth in the cruise market over the last four years, increased pressure has been placed on the infrastructure that supports the industry, from port facilities to tourism services.
The Ministry recently provided advice to the Minister for Economic Development on the proposal to build a road between Haast and Milford Sound.
