Industry Associations

The Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) is the tourism industry’s trade association representing around 2,000 members ranging from small owner-operated businesses to large stock exchange-listed companies.  TIA states that its members make up over 85% of the country’s tourism turnover.

 

In addition to providing tools, information, advice and advocacy for members, TIA manages three national tourism industry events each year: Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ) which is a large industry trade show, Tourism Conference, and the New Zealand Tourism Awards.

 

Inbound Tour Operators Council (ITOC) Inbound tourism operators provide an important distribution channel link between tourism businesses in New Zealand and overseas travel companies that book them. Members include inbound tourism operators (full members) and their suppliers (allied members).  ITOC’s mission is to unite all operators and to encourage the development of services, facilities, training and education within the industry.

 

New Zealand Hotel Council (NZHC) represents hotels throughout the country, ranging from international chains to independent, privately-owned and boutique hotels.  NZHC provides members with professional advice, industry information and research, and engages with major tourism partners on issues of interest to members.

 

Motel Association (MANZ) is the national trade body for the New Zealand motel industry.  The Association works to enhance the quality of motel product by both supporting members in all aspects of running a motel business and by ensuring the Government is kept aware of the national importance of the motel industry to commerce and to tourism in New Zealand.  The Association has over 1,000 members, representing self-contained motels and apartments.

 

@ Home New Zealand represents farmstays and bed and breakfasts. It has over 700 members, who are all assessed at two-yearly intervals to ensure quality standards are maintained. Those members that are Qualmark rated are assessed more frequently.

 

Holiday Accommodation Parks of New Zealand (HAPNZ) is a membership based and funded organisation, representing the interests of over 295 holiday parks.  It has five core areas of work: industry advocacy, business networking, industry development programmes, membership services and industry standards.

 

Travel Agents Association (TAANZ) represents members of the travel agent and tour operator distribution system in New Zealand. It promotes quality standards, service and performance. It has a code of ethics and bonding system for members, which protects the public against business failure.

 

Bus and Coach Association (BCA) represents bus and coach operators in New Zealand, as well as limousine and small Passenger Service Vehicle operators.  It also represents other businesses associated with the industry, including equipment and service suppliers. 

 

Hospitality Association (HANZ) is a voluntary trade association. Over 2,000 hospitality businesses are members, and come from a wide spectrum including cafes, bars, hotels, motels, catering business, restaurants and wineries.   HANZ represents members on all issues impacting on their business, including tourism, employment, sale and supply of liquor, accommodation, food and gaming.  As well as providing individual services, HANZ operates at the local and national level.

 

New Zealand Retailers Association (NZRA) is the main retail industry lobby group to government.  It provides retail advice, information and education to members.

 

Restaurant Association (RANZ) provides members with specialist industry information, support and services, opportunities to network, forums for discussion and education on matters of industry interest and concern, business tools and savings plans.  Members come from a wide variety of restaurant types across the country.

 

Youth Hostel Association New Zealand (YHA) is a member of the International Youth Hostels Association, alongside 80 other organisations worldwide united under the Hostelling International brand. YHA and Hostelling International Hostels form the world’s first and largest supplier of budget accommodation. A not-for-profit charitable organisation, YHA New Zealand's goal is to offer services to members so that they can consistently provide quality accommodation and travel experiences.
