Qualmark is New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance agency. It is owned by Tourism New Zealand and the New Zealand Automobile Association.
Qualmark operates as a licensing system, and all tourism businesses in New Zealand are eligible to apply. There is a star grading system for accommodation providers, and a quality endorsement system for other tourism businesses.
Qualmark helps to achieve the industry’s overall goal to enhance New Zealand’s reputation as a world class visitor destination.
Qualmark also operate as a business development tool. Regular assessments and feedback offer businesses a chance to conduct a gap-analysis of their business, helping them to learn more about their strengths and weaknesses and to identify opportunities to refine and improve their businesses, based on best practice.
Qualmark has recently launched its Responsible Tourism program. This extends and enhances the environmental and social assessment criteria in its quality assurance assessment system for accommodation providers, visitor activities, transport and services. This will assist New Zealand tourism operators to introduce sustainability practices and good environmental management within their organisations.
