Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) are responsible for promoting their regions to domestic and international visitors.
There are currently 29 RTO's in New Zealand and these vary in size, structure, and scope of the activities they undertake.
Some are funded in part or in full by local council, others by annual membership fees. All 29 however, act as a bridge between tourism operators, national tourism bodies, and local and central government.

The interests of all RTOs are represented by their umbrella organisation – Regional Tourism Organisations New Zealand.
