Regional Tourism Organisations

Last updated: September 2008

Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) are responsible for promoting their regions to domestic and international visitors.

There are currently 29 RTOs in New Zealand and these vary in size, structure, and scope of the activities they undertake.

Some are funded in part or in full by local council, others by annual membership fees. All 29 however, act as a bridge between tourism operators, national tourism bodies, and local and central government.

For the latest research and statistics available for all RTOs, please refer to the Ministry of Tourism's research website.
