Tourism Research Council New Zealand
The Tourism Research Council New Zealand (TRCNZ) was established by the Minister of Tourism in 2000, to
ensure the provision of quality research to meet the information
needs of a wide range of users.
The Council is an advisory body comprised of senior
representatives from the public and private sectors. The
Ministry provides secretariat support to the Council. You can
contact TRCNZ via the Ministry of
Tourism.
TRCNZ Purpose
TRCNZ's purpose is to "define, champion and pursue an integrated research
strategy to ensure the co-ordinated provision of consistent,
authoritative and reliable research, information and forecasting."
TRCNZ Mode of Operation
TRCNZ is an advisory body that meets on a quarterly basis.
The Council advances its work
programme through its various sub-committees and through the
Ministry of Tourism's Research Team, which serves as the Secretariat
to the Council.
The Council does not have its own funding, however the Ministry of
Tourism is vested with around $2 million per annum to support
TRCNZ's work programme.
TRCNZ Members
Council members come from the public and private sectors. Members
are appointed by the Minister of Tourism for terms
of two years. Some members are appointed 'by right' - such as
the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand - and others are
appointed to represent particular research user and provider
perspectives.
