Hutt City Council Visitor Development Programme

Tourism development in Hutt City is on the rise following increased demand from domestic, cruise ship and conference markets. Hutt City Council's visitor development manager in the city development division works with existing and potential operators and developers to arrive at a product that is suitable for the market.

Hutt City Council can assist every step of the way from sourcing the right piece of land through to consents and all the way to market.

Hutt City Council works closely with Positively Wellington Tourism on macro market issues but is able to deal more effectively with the specifics of Hutt City. The visitor development manager facilitates local industry clusters to actively work on infrastructure development, product development, international relationships, training and marketing.

Qualmark

Qualmark is New Zealand tourism's official quality assurance agency. It operates a licensing system for tourism's official quality mark (the Qualmark®) and all tourism business in New Zealand are eligible to apply.

Annual licence fees for Qualmark are based on the size of your business and equate to less than $NZD40 or $NZD50 a month for small accommodation and tourism businesses.

The Qualmark assessment system is a constructive, practical business development tool that is based on what visitors want and expect. Regular assessments offer you the chance to conduct a gap-analysis, identifying how your business delivers in relation to industry standards and where the opportunities are for improvement.

Qualmark is able to assist the continual improvement process by providing, for example, templates for cleaning schedules, cancellation policies and operations manuals, and providing advice on liability waivers for adventure tourism operators.

A Qualmark assessment is a great way to learn about the wider tourism industry and to improve your business based on best-practice.

Businesses have to have been operating for a year before Qualmark will assess them.
