Briefings to Ministers

The Ministry of Tourism provides briefings to the Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Tourism, with information on:

  • current issues in tourism and related sectors,

  • the policies of other departments and how they impact on tourism,

  • significant, or potentially significant, changes in the tourism or economic environment, and

  • issues raised by stakeholders in the industry.

The Minister and Associate Minister of Tourism require frequent briefings on a wide range of tourism issues and policies affecting tourism, their implications and, importantly, possible actions that the Government could take.

Briefings are pulled together in anything from a few weeks to a matter of hours depending on the complexity of the issue, its urgency and the instructions of the Minister. Because some issues are sensitive in nature, briefings are kept confidential.
