The Economic Impact of the 2003 America's Cup Defence

This study shows that the preparation and defence produced some $529 million of economic value added in the New Zealand economy. This is a significant contribution to our annual GDP.

To allow a comparison with the previous defence, the Ministry also commissioned a revision of the 1999/2000 economic impact study (this is attached as Appendix 9 to the main study and as a separate document). This was necessary because updated information showed changes in the structure of the national economy, and indicated lower multiplier effects from additional expenditure.
