Regional Tourism Organisations New Zealand

Roles and Guidelines for Tourism Organisations

New Zealand has a wide range of organisations involved in tourism promotion at various community, district, regional and national levels.

This project developed clear descriptions of tourism organisation roles, functions and relationships with Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs).

The guidelines also detail the typical roles, functions and resource requirements for successful RTOs.

The guidelines are useful for councils, industry groups and communities who may be considering forming new tourism structures.

A checklist was also developed that advises which agencies are likely to be responsible for various regional tourism planning scenarios – the ‘Intervention Model for Regional Tourism Planning’.
