Adoption of NZ fern mark in rebranding of Qualmark and Visitor Information Network.

Introducing a mark of authenticity for Maori tourism products and experiences

Toi Iho – a Maori-made mark – introduced to guarantee authenticity and quality of Maori arts and crafts.
Qualmark is working with Maori tourism interests to develop an assessment module for the quality of Maori cultural product.

Increasing New Zealand’s presence in tourism distribution channels

newzealand.com domain secured by TNZ as base for further development of internet marketing strategy, to improve NZ’s exposure on the internet, and increase number of on-line sellers trading in NZ product.

Developing the Visitor Information Network (VIN) system for travel services

Packaging and promotion of 'product' NZ by ITOC members.
Relaunch of VIN in 2002 with fern and i-SITE branding. 60 VIN centres re-branded (March 2003), to establish i-SITE Centres as most comprehensive providers of quality, independent visitor information in NZ.

Release in 2002 of TIANZ paper on water and wastewater, as a case study of pressures on local infrastructure and catalyst for wider discussion of issues.
CDRP funding secured for TMT-led 3-year project on infrastructure demand.

 

NZTS Objective: Becoming Financially and Economically Prosperous

TIANZ lead initiatives to promote pricing and yield management strategies, and operators increase their use of such strategies and premium pricing opportunities

 

Introduction by TIANZ of financial and economic templates for assessing NZ Tourism Awards entries, and TIANZ project on capital investment in NZ tourism sector.
Continued emphasis by TIANZ and TNZ on industry holding its pricing firm in face of challenges posed by terrorism, war, SARS etc
Stakeholders work with airlines to ensure capacity issues are considered in product development and marketing TNZ’s airline strategy addresses capacity and other issues, and forms basis of TNZ’s ongoing contacts with key airlines.

 

NZTS Objective: Enable Tourism

Refinements to tourism training to better meet SME needs, reduce the number of providers and secure a greater share of available industry training funding

SkillNZ contribution to ATTTO increased in 2002, TIANZ work with ATTTO to define future skill needs for tourism sector workforce planning, new ATTTO training course on customer service for tourism employees.
Government contracts for 82 Modern Apprentices in tourism by June 2003.

A five-year commitment for funding the core tourism data set, with a single organisation accountable for the data set and development of the R&D programme, and improving the share of public research funding secured for tourism

 

Core tourism dataset consolidated with TMT and managed on advice from TRCNZ.
Ongoing funding provided by government to support all elements of the core tourism data set.
TMT, on behalf of TRCNZ, undertook the Review of Core Tourism Statistics which generated 96 recommendations geared for enhancing the quality and consistency of tourism data.
TRCNZ released Tourism Research and Development Strategy 2002 to articulate requirements of tourism sector research.
TMT established the TRCNZ's new website to serve as first access point for tourism research, data and forecasts - launced in February 2003.

Implementation by Qualmark of a quality brand, sector standards and a national accreditation framework for tourism

 

Extension of Qualmark beyond accommodation, including new categories for visitor activities, visitor transport and visitor services. A national accreditation framework is in place, and sector standards have been developed.
