Public Sector Infrastructure Toolbox

Local government plays a critical role in providing the utilities and infrastructure on which tourism, and other industries, rely. In some towns tourism places significant demand on public sector infrastructure.

For example, in Akaroa tourism can account for over 50% of annual water consumption. Increasing visitor numbers are steadily growing the demand for water, wastewater and solid waste services in many centres.

The Public Sector Infrastructure toolbox provides information, data and resources for those involved in planning, designing and managing the infrastructure and services used by the tourism industry.

This toolbox focuses on:

  • Water supply
  • Wastewater management
  • Solid waste management

The tools enable you to estimate visitor use of these key forms of infrastructure, helping to better inform your infrastructure planning.
