Maori tourism adds a rich dimension to New Zealand’s visitor experience, and helps set New Zealand apart from the rest of the world.
The Ministry of Tourism (TMT) intends to fund a business capability mentoring programme aimed at Maori cultural tourism businesses, to be delivered in 2009.
The Ministry’s work with the Maori tourism sector is guided by the priorities and actions in the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015.
Helping to develop a commercially sustainable, high quality and authentic Maori tourism sector is a key goal of the Ministry of Tourism.
The range and quality of Maori tourism product has grown steadily in recent years. The New Zealand Maori Tourism Council (NZMTC) supports its member MRTOs to build business capability amongst Maori tourism operators, and promote and support Maori tourism interests and initiatives.
The New Zealand Maori Tourism Council (NZMTC) is a nation-wide Maori tourism organisation which develops relationships, networks and strategies to facilitate business growth and prosperity for Maori in tourism.
Maori Regional Tourism Organisations (MRTOs) are self-identified collectives of Maori tourism operators in a particular region.
The New Zealand Māori Arts and Craft Institute Act 1963 created what is now known as the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute, located in Rotorua. The aim of the Institute is to encourage and promote all types of Māori arts, craft, performance and culture.
