What is sustainable tourism?

The natural environment, our communities, cultures and businesses are all part of what makes up the tourism industry.

Why is it important?
  • New Zealand’s natural environment is the primary drawcard for our visitors; it is the cornerstone of the New Zealand experience. We need to protect and preserve this valuable asset.

  • Our visitors’ experiences will be enhanced: leading to increased visitor satisfaction.

  • Consumer demand for sustainable products and services is on the increase, especially from visitors from our key markets.

  • Becoming more sustainable as a business is simply taking business responsibility.

  • It makes pure common sense for businesses as it will improve short and long term economic viability.

  • There are socio-cultural benefits, both to your business and the wider community.
