Tourism Planning Toolkit Structure
You can use parts of the Tourism Planning Toolkit to address particular issues,
or, work through the whole Toolkit to develop a comprehensive tourism strategy
for your area.

The four main sections (Tookits) form the basis of a tourism strategy.
Start with the Situation Analysis Toolkit, gather the required
information in each of the sub-sections (Toolboxes), then work your
way through the other Toolkits.
Each Toolbox has five components (shown below), including editable
templates for checklists and surveys.
These templates can be used, free of charge or copyright, to obtain the
required information.

By completing all four Toolkits, you will have information
needed to prepare a tourism strategy. This valuable planning tool
will sit alongside other
statutory and non statutory local authority documents.
You may find that it isn't practical to obtain all of the
information recommended in the Toolkit at the moment. You can still
work through the Toolkit, and develop a tourism strategy that
builds on the knowledge you do have. Just note any information
gaps you may want to address in the future.
After developing a tourism strategy, careful consideration
should be given to finding a ‘home’ for coordination and management of the strategy. Implementation of the
strategy will require active and ongoing participation from both the private and public sectors.
